The Josh Perry Scholarship Fund at The Piano Studio

The Josh Perry Scholarship Fund was created to honour and remember a friend of The Piano Studio, a musician and member of our community for many years, Josh Perry.  Josh passed away in March of 2024.  Made possible by generous donations from Josh’s family and friends, we are honoured to administer the fund on their behalf to support and help deserving students continue their music education.

The scholarship funds are awarded in two categories:  Performance, and Financial Aid.

Josh Perry Performance Scholarship

The objective of the Josh Perry Performance Scholarship is to recognize outstanding performance by students who wish to pursue further education and training in their chosen field of study here at The Piano Studio.  The scholarship will provide a weekly private lesson for one school year (September to June). The recipient of the scholarship will be a student who is advancing in their field of study, who has made a commitment to growth and excellence and who has been diligent in their practice and performance.

Applicant Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled at The Piano Studio
  • Piano, Violin, and Voice students must be in RCM level 3 or higher
  • Guitar and Drum students must have taken lessons for at least 3 years (here or elsewhere)
  • For students aged 8-16 years

Application Process:

Applicants must submit an audio recording of a performance of 2-3 minutes and a short video explaining what this would mean to you as a committed student of your craft.  These can be submitted via email to Elise or on a USB drive.  We will also ask for a recommendation letter in PDF format from your teacher.

Application Deadline:

Applications for the 2024-2025 School Year are due by October 30th, 2024.

Selection Process:

The recordings and videos will be reviewed by a panel composed of a representative from the Perry family, a representative from the Fast family, and two or more parents from our school community.  Our goal is to award two scholarships for the 2024-2025 school year:  one for ages 8-12 and one for ages 13-16.

Josh Perry Financial Bursary

The objective of the Josh Perry Financial Bursary is to provide lessons to a child who may otherwise not be able to pursue their love of music and learning an instrument or singing.  We all, from time to time, come across someone who would be in music lessons if cost was not a factor.  Difficult economic times sometimes require financial aid for extra curricular activities. We know that the arts provide so much to the development of young lives.  The scholarship will provide a weekly 30-minute private lesson for one school year (September to June).  We are very excited to be able to offer this option this year.

Nomination Process:

If you know a deserving student who is not able to enroll in lessons due to financial need, you may speak to any of our front desk staff and we will forward you the nomination form and instructions.  Nominations will be kept confidential.

Nomination Deadline:

Nominations for the 2024-2025 School Year are due by October 30th, 2024.

Requirements for Nominees:

  • For prospective students aged 6-17 years
  • Will be able to attend a weekly lesson at one of our locations

Selection Process:

Nominations will be kept confidential and reviewed by a small panel composed of members of the Perry and Fast families.  The private and confidential decision will be communicated only to the person who submitted the nomination and the parents of the chosen bursary recipient.  Our goal is to award up to two Bursaries for the 2024-2025 school year.

Donations

Donations to the Scholarship Fund may be made by cheque payable to The Piano Studio, or via e-transfer to Elise (speak to our Front Desk staff for her email address).  Please make sure to indicate it is a donation for the Josh Perry Scholarship Fund in the Memo line of the cheque, or the Comment field of the e-transfer.  Please note that this does not qualify as a tax-deductible donation as we are not a registered charity.
